Coaching Staff

Stan Weiss General Manager and Asst. Coach

Stan Weiss has been involved in hockey coaching and administration for over 20 years.

He has coached Tier 1 (AAA) hockey for 8 years (in Toronto, Canada) where his Wexford Raiders teams won 17 of 23 major international tournaments including a world championship
at the Novice (Mites) level. The team also earned the runner-up position to
the Russian Red Army Elite team in a second world championship at the Minor Peewee
level. Mr. Weiss coached his AAA teams to 4 Metro Toronto Hockey League Championships
and an All-Ontario Championship (in its only year of eligibility). Before coming
to BYU, Coach Weiss owned and coached the Utah Valley Golden Eagles Junior Hockey
Team, which boasted a winning season record and made the playoffs in all 6 years of
its existence.

Jeremy Weiss Head Coach

Jeremy Weiss grew up in Toronto, Canada where he was introduced to hockey at a
young age. After winning the “AAA” Ontario Championships, he moved to Utah in 9th
grade and became the All-time Leader in Career Goals, and Total Points in Utah High
School Hockey. As team MVP and leading scorer, he led Timpanogos High School to a
State Championship and also won two League MVP awards. During this time he played
four years of Jr. “B” hockey before moving back to Toronto to play two years of Jr. “A”
hockey in the Ontario Provincial Junior Hockey League. After returning from a Mission
in Brazil, Coach Weiss played for the BYU Cougars in 2004/05 and was the team’s MVP
and leading scorer, finishing 9th in the nation in points (ACHA DII). He was also honored
as Regional All-Star, and All-American.

Ryan Newton Assistant Coach

Ryan Newton grew up in Duluth, Minnesota where he became involved with hockey
at a young age. After graduating high school in 2004, he moved to Provo, Utah and
played for the BYU Cougars in 2004/05 and was named the team’s rookie of the year.
He served his LDS mission in the Mexico, Leon mission from 2005-2007. Upon returning
home from his mission Ryan played for the Cougars for four more seasons, being
named assistant captained from 2008-2011. During the past four years Ryan has also
become more involved with coaching and giving back to the hockey community. He
has worked for the Okanagan Hockey School, based out of Penticton, BC for the past
four years and has been a head off-ice instructor for three years and head on-ice instructor
for one. He has also coached the Provo Peak’s Polar Bears squirt team. He is
excited to continue helping the BYU Cougar hockey team become a stronger program.
